Obituary
Shirley (Diane) Malcolm
June 2, 1930 – November 14, 2022
It is with heavy, yet grateful hearts that the Malcolm family announce the peaceful passing of their dear Mom (our rock), Shirley Diane Malcolm (nee Town.) Diane left this world peacefully on November 14, 2022. Diane was 92 years of age.
Diane … Nan, as she was known by everyone was a very kind and caring woman, with a wonderful sense of humour, positive attitude and a quick dry wit. Diane was a strong, independent, hard working and determined woman, who carved out a rewarding life for herself and her family.
Diane was the glue of the Malcolm family. Saying goodbye to such an amazing woman is very difficult. Diane was most proud of her family; it was her greatest love, keeping her home open and welcoming to family and friends.
She was a good and loyal friend. If she was your friend, you were blessed. Diane valued every one of her friends. If you were family, you were beyond lucky to have her in your life. It was like winning the lottery! She was an amazing treasure.
Diane enjoyed knitting, puzzling, walking her precious dog Otis, and making chocolate chip cookies which she shared with her family and her grandson’s hockey community. As an avid Ottawa Senator’s hockey fan, Diane rarely missed a game – and to her great surprise received a call from Ottawa Senator Chris Neil on her 90th birthday!
In Diane’s younger years she was active in the curling community and played bridge with her lady friends for 30+ years.
Diane was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and eventually called Ottawa her home, spending much time at our family home on the Ottawa River.
Much loved Mom of Lorne (Munanti), Karen (Karl) and Liz (Brian). Cherished Nana of 5 grandchildren, Melissa, Taylor (Andrew), Blair (Julien), Garrett (Laura), predeceased by our precious Braden, and 7 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Emma, Abby, Carly, Clark, Lea and Finn.
The family will greatly miss Diane; however, they take comfort knowing she is with her loving family and friends who have passed before her.
Diane will be remembered for her positive attitude, frequently saying, “Well, tomorrow’s another day!”
Special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital.
A small celebration of life will be hosted at Clayton Lake on a beautiful summer’s day in 2023.
If you wish, donations may be made in Diane’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
