Obituary
It is with broken hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Shirley Doreen (Hamilton) Cook, announce her passing, which occurred peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 13th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born March 25th, 1931, in Saint John, she is the daughter of the late Stanley Melbourne and Catherine (Daly) Hamilton Craig. In her earlier years, Shirley worked for TAS for 7 years and spent 14 years at the Saint John Regional Hospital working as a switchboard operator. She enjoyed knitting, reading and doing puzzles. Most of all, she cherished every moment spent with her family and she will be missed by all who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her sons Brian Cook, Ronald “Red” Cook (Lynn), Robert “Bobby” Cook and Kevin Cook; daughters Diane McCarthy, Shelly Savoie (Amand) and Connie Crowe (Robbie); sister Connie O’Brien (Terry); 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband Ronald, brother Raymond “Sonny”, sister Elaine (Stanley), grandchildren Keith and Bridget and best friend Elva.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Extra Mural, Joan’s Homecare and her wonderful workers Lynn, Tina, Mary, Katie & Brenda, thank you all for your care and compassion.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Wednesday, March 16th from 2 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place in the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, March 17th at 11 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the SPCA-Animal Rescue or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
