SHIOSAKI Kayla April 14 1988 — September 27 2022

SHIOSAKI, Kayla
April 14, 1988 — September 27, 2022
Kayla Yasue Shiosaki was surrounded by family and friends in Kelowna, BC, when on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, cancer took her from us, she was 34 years old.
On April 14, 1988, Kayla was born into a loving family to Garry & Gloria Shiosaki, as there was no hospital in the small town of Elkford, BC, where Kayla’s family lived, she came into this world at Sparwood Hospital. She was a bright and positive kid, attended Rocky Mountain Elementary, and graduated from Elkford Secondary in June 2006. A testament to her compassion, Kayla then attended Lethbridge College for one year in the Child and Youth Worker program. However, in the fall of 2007 she moved to Kelowna, BC to be close to family. Kayla always looked forward to visits from her sister Carly, and now brother-in-law, Jake Knight from Lethbridge, Alberta.
Once in Kelowna, Kayla started looking for a job; it was her Aunty Nona that helped her land work at Sears in the Catalogue Department. She also worked at Dargal Interline Worldwide (travel) and Sears Travel. When Kayla had a goal she was driven, and while working she attended Okanagan College – she worked towards her Business Diploma through online courses. She became Department Manager at Sears, and a Compliance & Enforcement Specialist for Technical Safety BC.
Outside of work and school, Kayla savoured the beach, the Okanagan sun, and being outdoors camping; she delighted in music, travelling, and hanging with the people she loved, friends and family alike. Halloween and Christmas were her favourite holidays, and she always got into the spirit of things. She adored her fur baby, Riley, a 3-year-old English-Cream Retriever. Kayla was witty and stubborn, optimistic and loving. She cared for others and thought of them before herself. Above all, Kayla’s positive attitude and sunny outlook defined her, she always had a smile on her face, and despite the difficulties she endured, she never complained. She will be truly missed…
Along with her immediate family already mentioned, Kayla is survived by her many wonderful and caring family members from the Shiosaki, Swanson, and Mould families. Also feeling loss are her best friends (and their families): Shelley Simmer, Tetcha Simmer, Selina Jmaiff, Jessica Vandale, Kelsey Schneider, Erin Jensen, and many others. Kayla was predeceased by her grandparents: Jack (d. 1981) and Yasue (d.1999) Shiosaki and Lawrence (d. 2015) and Vera (d. 2005) Swanson, as well as some of her aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kayla’s family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the many people who helped her: Dr. Mary Wall (Oncologist); Dr. Sara Taylor (Oncologist); Dr. Clarkson (Surgeon); the Vancouver General Hospital staff; her GP Dr. David Whiting; the staff of Kelowna Cancer Agency; and the staff at Kelowna General Hospital; as well as her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local SPCA, your local Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
