Obituary
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Nickols. She passed away peacefully after a very brief illness, having been diagnosed with cancer in early October.
She was predeceased by her first husband Ed Nickols, second husband Richard (Dick) Middleton and her sister Patricia. Left to mourn are daughters Janet Ellison (Tim) and Sharon Greysen (Brad), step-children Sophie Middleton and Chris Middleton, grandchildren Caitlin, Thomas, Quinn, Adair and Julianna, great grandchildren Julian and Rivers, nieces and nephews.
Sheila was born in Victoria BC to Harry and Doris Carstens. After graduating from UBC she married Ed and settled in Maple Ridge in 1957. There she taught at several local schools and raised her family. She devoted much time to her church and community groups including the Maple Ridge Historical Society. Sheila helped write Maple Ridge: A History of Settlement, and wrote a history column for the local paper, some of which was published in 2014 as Looking Back. She was an avid reader, supporter of the arts, and loved to write poetry with a local group.
Sheila will be greatly missed by many, and touched all who knew her with her kindness.
