Sheila Lynn Masson (nee Bartram)
Rigaud
1948 – 2022
Sheila Lynn Masson, née Bartram, age 74, of Rigaud, departed this world on August 12th, 2022 at the Montreal Neurological Institute after a sudden health crisis, with her husband and four children nearby. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Michael, daughter Shauna (Ryan), sons Scott (Joni), Matthew (Susan) and Christopher (Lyna), her sister Elena, her nephews Stephen and Jason, and her ten grandchildren: Kyra, Jordan, Owen, Charlotte, Mikayla, Reece, Oliver, Madison, Alya, and William. She would have been overjoyed to learn that Susan and Matthew are expecting the birth of her eleventh grandchild in March.
Sheila was born in Montreal to Shirley (née Ferguson) of Halifax and Charles Kenneth Bartram of Ottawa. She grew up in the Rosemount district where she met her husband Michael in 1968 while studying for a bachelor degree in anthropology at Sir George Williams University. Married in June of the Summer of Love (1969) they happily became young parents to Scott in 1970. Over the next 14 years, they were blessed with three more children, Matthew, Shauna, and Christopher.
In 1977 Sheila encouraged Mike to turn his interest in traditional cabinetry into a career. They relocated to the Rigaud countryside where they worked side by side until recently.
A voracious reader of all genres and a lifelong learner, Sheila devoted much of her time to studying topics she was passionate about, including yoga, tarot, astrology, numerology, alternative healing modalities, meditation, folklore & mythology, and plant life. She completed many courses, workshops, and certification programs in several disciplines.
Her children remember her as someone who was always teaching and empowering them to seek out their own lessons. She showed great pride in them as they excelled in their endeavours.
As a yoga teacher starting in the 1990s, in private lessons in her home studio and group classes at the Hudson YMCA, Sheila met many people in the Hudson area community. Known for her wisdom and insight, when those around her sought counsel and support through difficult times, she was a messenger of heart, hope, and growth through positive change.
Fun, play, imagination, humour, and creativity were as virtues to her. She never lost her love of games and puzzles, and never stopped appreciating new and live music. Her playfulness combined with her deeply nurturing nature made her a wonderful grandmother. These qualities applied to the care of numerous adolescent cats which were periodically abandoned on her doorstep. The many cats and several dogs who she adopted over the years were also the fortunate recipients of her care and affection; she loved them dearly, as she did all animals.
In recent years she enjoyed several trips, including: to Disneyworld and Disney Land with her grandchildren; a Mediterranean cruise with Mike and Matthew where she witnessed her son’s proposal to his partner Susan; to Asheville, NC, for their wedding; and to British Columbia to visit her beloved sister and late brother-in-law, Mac.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Valleyfield Hospital emergency room, and the Montreal Neurological Institute ICU for the treatment Sheila received while in their care.
Michael and Family welcome those who shared paths with Sheila to attend a celebration of her life to be held at her home on September 17th, 2022, at 2 PM. Please visit www.facebook.com/events/1256484861770228 if you plan to attend or wish to share some memories with us.

Death notice for the town of: Rigaud, Province: Quebec
My deepest sympathies to the family of Sheila and her husband Mike. She was a wonderful person and I was lucky to have known her for 57 years. My children Jennifer and Stephanie are deeply saddened as they viewed Sheila as a second mom in their formative years. Again our sympathies. She is flying with the angels!
