Serenna Sarah Callahan January 1 1935 November 14 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Serenna Sarah Callahan (nee. Brown) announce her passing on Monday, November 14th, 2022 at the Western Long-Term Care, Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loving family, in her 87th year. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughters: Jocelyn Kennedy (David), Beverley Pollard (Lloyd), and Bernadette Moore (Lloyd); her sons: Edward Callahan (Minnie), Roderick Callahan (Susan), Stephen Callahan (Patricia), and Gregory Callahan (Tracey); her 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, as well as another on the way; her sisters; Mary Collins (Job), Cheryl Dwyer (Eddy); her sisters-in-law: Geraldine Brown, Ethel Brown, Marie Pardy (Jack), Marjorie St. Denis, Theresa Pinsent (Steve), Sheila Callahan, Joan Lockyer (Baxter), and Bridgette Penney (Garland); brother-in-law: Raymond Callahan (Georgie); her special friends: Karen Neville, Rita Tobin, and Heidi Costello, who were like daughters to Serenna; and her special nephew: Bill Callahan; as well as a large circle of other relatives, many friends, and special neighbours whom she thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the deck with everyday. Serenna is predeceased by her parents: Marshall and Honorah Brown; husband: Edward; her son: Wayne; and her brothers: Hector, Jim, and George Brown.
Over these passed two years or more, during this time of COVID, our mother dearly missed her card buddies: Elsie, Doreen and Gerry, and their husbands; as well as her friends at the Senior’s Echo Club in which she was an active member involved in playing cards, darts, and dancing. Mom also loved to walk everyday. It made her so happy to be outside in the fresh air. She said it made her feel so much at peace. Mom was also a very devout Christian, who believed that one day, she would be at God’s side in heaven. Mom loved butterflies, and angels. Well God has certainly gained another angel, so fly away sweet butterfly angel, you are set free Mom. Fly with the angels in heaven. There is no more pain or tears.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Peter Callahan for his many years of compassion and dedicated care to mom. He always made her laugh, even when she was worried. A thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Palliative Care Unit; thank you for the loving care you showed our mom during her illness. Also, to her care givers at Maximum Home Support, Pansy and Jody, for their kind, gentle, and loving care they showed to her. All of your kindness will never be forgotten.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday, November 17th, 2022 at Country Haven Funeral Home from the hours of 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM, from where the funeral service will take place on Friday, November 18th, 2022 at the Sacred Heart Church in Curling at 10:30 AM with Father Jim Robertson officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, no flowers by request, instead a donation can be made in Serennas memory to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul (ssvp.ca/) or a charity of one’s choice.
The family is suggesting masks be worn to all services, although it will not be mandatory to do so.
