Scott L Hicks Saturday March 26th 2022

Scott Leamon Hicks, 85, (formerly of Carmanville) resided in St. John’s until his passing on March 26, 2022, after a short battle with liver cancer.
Scott was born in Twillingate on December 18, 1936 (the only child of Janet and Leamon Hicks of Carmanville). Scott grew up in Carmanville and, after graduating school he chose to return there to teach.
Scott had taught school in Raleigh and Wesleyville and then Carmanville he later attended Memorial University and completed his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in 1971. Scott continued teaching in Carmanville until his retirement in 1990. Scott was a well-respected teacher within the community, and some would say a helper and trusted friend. Upon retirement from teaching, Scott and his wife Joan embarked up on business opportunity owning and operating a retirement home in Carmanville. They operated the home for ten years, until they decided to sell and relocate to St. John’s, where they lived together until his passing.
Throughout his professional life Scott served as vice principal, mayor, deputy-mayor, and councillor, musician, along with many other community organizations, and emceed many weddings. Scott was an entertainer; he enjoyed playing guitar and singing. In the late 1960s- early 1970s Scott and some of his colleagues formed a band called “Dusk to Dawn” and toured the local area and were popular according to local lore. Scott enjoyed outdoor activities, boating, ski-dooing, ice fishing and hunting.
Scott married his childhood sweetheart B. Joan Goodyear on July 23, 1960, going on to have three children Stephen, Paul and Victoria. They lost Paul at the young age of five in 1971.
Scott was predeceased by his son Paul of 5 years, father Leamon and mother Janet. Scott is survived by his wife Joan (nee, Goodyear); son Stephen (Peigi Murray) of St. John’s, NL.; daughter Victoria (Moyle Jacobs) of Kitchener, ON; granddaughters: Chloe and Claire, and many family and friends.
We would like to thank all those who sent their condolences and well wishes. He will forever be in our hearts and we are thankful for his presence in our lives.
In keeping with Scott’s wishes, cremation has taken place and services will take place at a later date.
