SCHROD Manfred August 29 1940 — June 23 2022

SCHROD, Manfred
August 29, 1940 — June 23, 2022
Our beloved husband, dad, and Opa passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on June 23, 2022. He will be forever missed by his wife of 61 years, Gerda; his sons Fred (Marlene) and Peter (Gabriele); and grandchildren Phillip, Katrina, Jennifer, Stephanie, Sarah, and Matthew.
Having lost his father at a young age, Manfred grew up with his mother and older sister. He was independent and practical, and excelled at road cycling – winning several races. At the young age of 14 he biked from Germany to Italy. He put himself through trade school and became a precision machinist.
Manfred married the love of his life, Gerda, in 1960 in Frankfurt, Germany, and two years later they made the big move to Toronto, ON, Canada. The family grew as they welcomed 2 sons. Manfred worked very hard, whether in various homes that they remodelled or as National Service Manager of Bell & Howell/Canon Canada.
In 1972, the family moved back to Frankfurt, Manfred later working for Polaroid.
After 11 years, they made Kelowna, BC their home and Manfred semi-retired. Many times, you could see him tending his vegetable garden, tasting his apricots in his orchard, or refinishing another newly-acquired antique item or collectible. He loved his grandchildren and leaves a lasting impression with them.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews and Mt Ida Mews.
