Obituary
Sadie was born in Ponoka on April 9 1930, passing at 92 years of age at Bethany CollegeSide in Red Deer, surrounded by her two daughters and one granddaughter. She was the 6th born of 9 children. She was predeceased by her husband Martin in 2013, 4 sisters: Sylvia, Lillian, Florence, and Helen, and brothers Carl, Taisto and Onni.
She is survived by her three children: two daughters Faye (Doug) Dux and Brenda (George) Kocyba, and her only son Neil (Jamie) Foley; her grandchildren Ricky (Trisha) Dux, Michael Dux (Tami Stephenson), Michelle Dux (Brian Mclachlan), Scott Kocyba (Donna Langlay), Lee (Shannon) Kocyba, Jessie (Patrick) Seymour, and Marty (Hayley) Foley; and 11 great grandchildren: Brayden, Kiera, Anara, Mila, Emma, and Colten Dux, Locklynn, Rylan, and Jace Kocyba, and Cohen and Jasper Seymour. She has one living brother, Wesley(Pat) Leidenius who lives in Victoria BC, and her sister-in-law Irene Leidenius in Ponoka; along with many numerous nieces and nephews.
Sadie was welcomed into this world by her parents John and Senja Leidenius in the spring of 1930. She went to school in her early years at Glenfalloch before going to work on a farm east of Ponoka. During her time there she met Martin Foley and fell in love, marrying him on July 6th, 1951. They had three children together before settling down on a farm in 1960 in the Usona district.
Sadie worked very hard during her life but always took the time to sit down and visit with her friends and family over a cup of coffee. She enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, and playing cards. She worked at the Alberta hospital in Ponoka for 10 years as a housekeeper. She was involved with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for 40 years. She enjoyed drinking hot toddies in the evenings, especially in the winter time. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her daughter, Faye, remembers the homemade cake she would make daily after school.
She loved having her family around her, especially her brothers and sisters who were known for staying for long periods of time at her home. She often played cards with all of her grandkids, games like ‘Happy’ and ‘Hearts’ were among her favourites. The fondest memories with her great grandkids were formed during her visits while they were camping or her attendance at family dinners. Christmas was another special time for the family when spent with her. Jessie said that she had a lot of good memories of family photos by the barn or playing in the sun room at the farm.
For 20 years, family, friends, and neighbours gathered at the Glenfalloch school for parties. Weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties, and if someone wanted to party, they did. Her daughter, Faye, recalls the one year where they didn’t miss a month. Any month without a large holiday like Halloween or Easter would have a birthday party instead. When asked what he remembered about his grandmother, Ricky instantly replied the parties at Glenfalloch school, and how much fun he had there with his family and friends.

There won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t talk or think of our visits, the laughs we shared, the coffee we drank, and the snacks we ate. We will cherish all of these memories of being there with you!

She will sadly be missed by family, friends, and all who had the chance to meet her. She truly had a heart of gold.
The Interment Service will be held at a later date at the Ferrybank Cemetery.
