Obituary of Ruth L. Hattie
Hattie, Ruth L. (Findley), Halifax
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Ruth Lillian Hattie at Wynn Park Villa, Truro, on June 13, 2022. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the Late Percy and Lillian Findley.
Following graduation from vocational school, Ruth began a job at the Department of Lands and Forests. There she met Joseph Hattie. They married in 1965 and went on to have four active kids by 1971. To give her a break from home life and a chance to keep in touch with her work friends, she attended a Wednesday night knit and chat club with snacks – a group Joe fondly nicknamed the Stitch and club. Over time the group was reduced to four who remained for over 50 years. As the chauffeur of the “Hattie Mobile”, she shuttled the neighbourhood kids to school, sports and music lessons. Summer vacations were spent at Kejimkujik National Park. Lots of gumption camping with four young kids and a dog. Once the kids finally left home, she joined the Red Hatters and renewed her interest in travel. Ruth was an avid sewer and knitter making dresses for her daughters and sweaters for all children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her mystery books and vinyl records. As a loving mother she left a lasting impression on her children and will be always missed.
Predeceased by Joseph, husband of 43 years, parents Percy and Lillian Findley and brother Raymond Findley. Survived and missed by children Kathy, Susan (Chris), Bev (Dean), and Ronald and grandchildren Lachlan (Alyssa), Erin and Leah as well as extended family.
Graveside service to be held Friday June 17 at 2 pm at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 585 Sackville Drive in Lower Sackville NS. Donations in memory of Ruth may be made to Parkinson Society Nova Scotia.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ruth
