It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Ruth Elizabeth Dale, at her home in Winnipeg on February 24, 2022.
Ruth was born on August 12, 1932, on the family farm in the RM of Mossey River west of the village of Fork River, Manitoba.
She was the eighth child of ten children born to William and Myrtle (Butler) Dale.
Growing up on the farm she always found plenty to do with her siblings, and spent many hours exploring, especially along the Fork River that ran alongside their farmyard. This was likely what developed a lifelong love for nature and wildlife and her joy of watching birds.
Ruth’s education began at Pine View country school, two miles from their farm home, where she walked with her siblings every day. After completing her schooling, she pursued a career that happened to revolve around eggs. Her first job was at Portage la Prairie, Manitoba grading eggs. Over the years she moved into administration taking a position in Winnipeg and eventually moving to Toronto, Ontario where she took on the role of office manager for a Canadian Egg Marketing agency.
Ruth was a long-time employee with the company and on her retirement, she moved to her cottage at Wasaga Beach where she could enjoy the view of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment. Her Manitoba roots eventually called her back and she returned to Manitoba in 2016 to be closer to her siblings. She settled in a neighbourhood in the southwest end of Winnipeg near her brother Allan and sister Janet.
Ruth never married, but she found happiness spending time with her sisters and brothers and her many nieces and nephews. Ruth would make many trips back to Manitoba while she lived in Toronto to visit family, sharing stories and offer words of wisdom that left a lasting impression. She also had a large family of friends that she was faithful in keeping in touch with.
Ruth was renowned for her generosity and random acts of kindness, searching for that special gift. She was an explorer and enjoyed travelling to new places and making new friends. Her free-spirit and love of adventure took her all over the world, including Ireland, Scotland, Greece, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Mediterranean, New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar, Africa, Poland, Luthuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil Argentina, Mexico, United States, plus many others stop in-between.
Ruth loved sports and especially ball, attending many Blue Jay games. She would watch games on TV and family soon learned not to disturb Ruth until the game was over.
She has left to mourn her sister Doreen (Howard) Houston, brother Allan (Margaret) Dale and sister Janet (Peter) Pascal, plus many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Mary (Tom) Miller, Jean (Russell) Lyons, Barbara (Harry) Livingston and brothers Jim (Riet) Dale, Alex (Eileen) Dale, and Bruce (Lillian) Dale.
In accordance with Ruth’s wishes cremation will take place, and a service will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Duck’s Unlimited Canada (www.ducks.ca), Trans Canada Trail (www.tctrail.ca) or to a charity of one’s choice.
