It is with great sadness and heavy
hearts that the family of Elaine Smith,
82, is announcing her passing that occurred on August 4, 2022 at the
Moncton Hospital with loving family by her side. Elaine was born in
Central Hampstead, NB and was the oldest daughter of the late Wesley
and Grace (Appleby) Slipp.
Besides being a loving wife and good and
caring mother, Elaine was a schoolteacher for over 30 years, teaching
in Havelock and Port Elgin, retiring in 1998. While teaching and
raising a family, Elaine went back to school and obtained her Bachelor
of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees at Mount Allison University,
Sackville, NB and shared her passion for learning with several
generations of students over the years.
Community minded, Elaine was the Mayor
of Port Elgin in the 1980s, a member of The Order Of The Eastern Star,
Zetland Chapter, O.E.S. for 51 years. She was a Past Matron, and Past
Grand Representative of Georgia, as well as a board member of the
Moncton Hospital for 10 years. An accomplished seamstress and chef,
Elaine took great pride in her home and
family.
Elaine will be sadly missed by her two
daughters, Beatrice (Steven) Daniel and Susan Muttenthaler, both of
Yellowknife, NT; granddaughters Ilia and Arielle Daniel, Yellowknife
and Joey Muttenthaler, Halifax; brothers John Slipp and Donald (Joan)
Slipp, Central Hampstead, sister Pam (Rino) Godbout, Clairmont, AB;
sister-in-law Annie Slipp, Central Hampstead; as well as several
nieces, nephews, and other relations across the
country.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband R.
Keith Smith, her granddaughter Karla E. Muttenthaler, and her brother
George Slipp.
The family wish to express their
gratitude to Dr. Gillett, Dr. Mohamed, the nurses, and the staff of
the Moncton Hospital for the kindness and care they extended to
Elaine.
Arrangements are under the care and
guidance of Jones Funeral Homes,
Sackville & Port Elgin, NB (506-364-1300). A public
visitation will be held at the Port Elgin location, 3 West Main
Street, on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 2-4 pm with an Eastern Star
Service at 2 pm. Elaine will be laid to rest alongside her
husband, Keith, at the Central Hampstead Rural Cemetery at a later
date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites
those who wish to do so to make donations to the Canadian Lung
Association or a charity of your choice.
