Obituary For Russell Daryl Wood
November 18, 1957 – September 16, 2022
It is with heavy hearts, we mournfully announce the passing of Russell Wood who went to be with his savior on Friday, September 16, 2022, in Grande Prairie, Alberta at the age of 64 years old. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Donald and Frieda Wood. In 1961 the family moved to Grande Prairie and started a life in Alberta.
Russell was a journeyman carpenter but after a few years decided to change jobs and began to work for Wapiti Sand and Gravel, where he worked for them for just shy of 35 years. Russell was very much looking forward to retiring this winter, he and Louise had plans of travelling more and enjoying time with family.
He met Louise in 1999, at the Corral, and they married on April 16, 2010, in Grande Prairie. Together they enjoyed travelling to places such as Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa and Playa Del Carmen and loved to camp, with many weekends spent at Pipestone campground. Russell also loved fast cars and when he was younger, he had one of the best collections of Hot Wheels any kid could ask for. He always dreamed of going to see these fast cars in action and so in 2018, he and Louise attended the Daytona 500.
Russell loved music and had a collection of albums that he was meticulous about. He even build a large trunk to keep all the albums in and of course, the albums were in alphabetical order. He learned to play the guitar and loved to two-step. He also loved to play ball and played on a few slow pitch teams over the years.
He is survived by his wife Louise of 12 years, stepchildren Ryan and his wife Heather and their two girls Jasmine and Kassidy, Nadine and her 3 sons, Austin, Jayden, and Demetra, Brennen, and Nathan and his partner Ian. He is also survived by a step great granddaughter, Ophelia. He is survived by his sister, Bernadine and brother-in-law, Douglas, nieces Tamatha (Chris) and Candace (Bruce) and great nephews Stefan (Jess) and Shane and great niece Ava.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Frieda Wood.
A funeral will be held for Russell on Saturday, October 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church at 1:00 pm. You are invited to join the family at the church for refreshments following the Celebration of Life.
