RUDY BENSLER
January 17th, 1941 – June 16th, 2022
Rudy Bensler, precious husband, Dad, Papa, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on June 16th, 2022 at Greenwood Court. Rudy is survived by his loving wife Elfrieda of almost 53 years, sons Chadwick (Camille Fortin), Andrew, his daughter Angela (Shane Wiebe), grandchildren Joelle and Josiah Wiebe, and his older sister Joanna Kalau. Besides his parents Bertha and Rudolf, Rudy was predeceased by his infant daughter Melanie and his brother Siegesmund.
Rudy was born in war-torn Germany and immigrated with his family to Kitchener in 1950. Through hard work, and the support of others that arrived before them, the Bensler family re-established their roots and created a loving home assisting many immigrants who followed. Rudy was employed by Blackstone/Valeo/SPI as an Industrial Engineer Manager for over thirty years. Here, he was much appreciated for his sound understanding of plant efficiency, and his ability to encourage the cooperation of all. In retirement, he was seldom idle, becoming a caring property manager and “fixer of all things” for his grateful family and friends. He was an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran church in Stratford, and then at Holy Cross Lutheran in Kitchener.
Over his years, he enjoyed wrestling, golf, curling, swimming and crokinole. By far his greatest joy was being with and encouraging his family, of whom he was extremely proud. He loved going to their musical performances, competitions and sporting events. Through film, photography, and audio recordings, he passionately documented his life and the love that surrounded him collecting memories that his family will treasure for generations. He selflessly, humbly, and quietly served others, shining the love of Jesus through his actions.
Rudy journeyed with dementia/aphasia for the last eight years of his life. He faced each day with a positive attitude and a bright smile, even when he lost his ability to speak, or serve in the more traditional ways to which he was accustomed. He showed great kindness to those who cared for him, and actively expressed his appreciation for them—sometimes through a hand squeeze, hug, kiss, or a classic Bensler eyebrow raise, even in his last days.
There are too many angels to individually recognize here, but the family wishes to highlight the loving and skilful contributions of the Huron Perth Alzheimer’s Society, Home and Community Support Services, Better Ways for Seniors, the Spruce Lodge VON day program, The Stratford General Hospital, and Greenwood Court (Heritage Ward).
Through Rudy’s love, dedication, and hard work, he helped establish and nurture strong family and community ties. Simply put, he was THE BEST!
Family and friends are invited to join the Benslers in celebrating Rudy’s life at the Revival House in Stratford on August 31st, from 4 – 8PM (program to begin at 5PM). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rudy’s honour to the Alzheimer Society of Huron and Perth County. www.wgyoungfuneralhome.com
