Rubyrose Vig
December 29, 1927 – January 31, 2022
Rubyrose passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Drayton Valley Long Term Care.
Our wonderful mother was born on December 29, 1927 in Coronation, Alberta in the back of a cutter in a blizzard to Albert and Elsie Benson, joining her older sister Pearl to complete this small family. She was raised in Bentley where she met and married our father, Chester Vig. Coming from a small family, mom was welcomed into a large and close farm family where she developed her desire for creating her own close and loving family.
Rubyrose and Chester raised their family in Ponoka, Nordegg and finally settling in Drayton Valley in 1955.
She was a long-time resident of Drayton Valley and a member of the Church of God. Rubyrose worked for the Town of Drayton Valley at the skating arena and the swimming pool, moving on to her last job at The Bay. For many years, she dedicated her time to the Hospital Auxilary. Rubyrose was very creative and artistic, enjoying many hobbies and crafts and also loved playing many games. However, mom’s number one love was always her family; hosting family events and picnics, and creating a warm and inviting home where we enjoyed her wonderful sense of humour and love for one another.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Chester; grandson, Darren Wood; great-granddaughter, Marina McQuaig and daughter-in-law, Edel Vig.
Left to carry on Mom’s legacy are her children, Faythe Vig (Tom Armagost), Harley Vig and his dear friend Ruth Wagner, Karmyn (Wilf) James, Gayleen (Alex) Blais and Kelly (David) Starling; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Rubyrose’s life will be celebrated in August 2022 with her family.
As an expression of gratitude for the excellent care she received from the kind and loving staff under the guidance of Dr. Froud, if friends so desire, memorial donations in Rubyrose’s memory may be made directly to Drayton Valley Long Term Care, 4550 Madsen Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta T7A 1N8
