Roy Smitty Schmidt 1936 2022

Obituary of Roy Schmidt
Roy (Smitty) Schmidt was born on the family farm near Dahinda Saskatchewan on February 9th 1936. He spent his younger years farming and getting into mischief until a beautiful young woman at a country dance caught his eye. Roy and Marlene were married on October 7th 1955. They soon were blessed with four children: Barry (Sonja) Schmidt, Kelly (Randy) MacDonald, Linda (Gary) Maillot and Kevin (Lisa) Schmidt. They spent their early years in Avonlea Saskatchewan where Roy worked for John Deere until starting his own company Selkirk Towing and Body, where Roy made many friends who love to share stories of how Roy helped them out of various situations.
He was an asset to the RCMP and was given a prestigious award in 2012 in appreciation of 35 years of dedicated service to the Police and the community. Roy retired in 2012 to care for Marlene until her passing. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, spending time with his family, supporting the local hockey team and returning to Saskatchewan to visit friends and family. He was fortunate to live independently in his own home until his sudden passing on May 3rd, 2022 at the age of 86.
Roy was predeceased by his wife Marlene (2016) and his grandson Jaden (2021). He leaves behind his 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (soon to be 12!). He will be remembered for his great stories, his love of family and friends and all those he helped.
There will be a service of Remembrance for Roy at McPhersons Funeral Home on June 3rd at 1:00pm.
