Obituary of Roy Phillip Hersey
It is with heavy hearts the family of Roy Phillip Hersey, 77 of Digby, announce his passing in Tideview Terrace on June 26, 2022 after a long and difficult battle with Wegener’s disease. Roy was the son of the late Joe and Frances Hersey of Culloden.
In younger years, Roy spent his life on the water either lobster or scalloping fishing. Through some of that time, Roy worked as a security guard while attending school to become a carpenter. However, he did spend the last of his working years at the Pines Resort Golf Course maintaining the grounds.
Roy loved cars and eventually got his hands on an old army jeep. He would be seen going back and forth to Culloden daily to have some of his mom’s apple pie and homemade bread. He also enjoyed taking his dad to the wharf or he would go home just to irritate his little sisters.
Anyone that knew Roy knew he loved to talk to anyone who would listen. And, always the one for a chat, he was happiest chatting with the fishermen on the wharf; even when the only transportation to get there was on his famous scooter.
Roy loved getting together with family and friends to share stories of the past. Never one to miss a chance for a social gathering, he loved all the family reunions.
Roy is survived by his partner, Carol Trask; his children, David, Brian, Sandra, Phillip (Crystal), and Kendall; grandchildren, Brittany, Devyn, Hinton, Caiden, and Mia; sisters, Marion, Darlene (Lester), and Susan (Jan); and nieces, Kim (Michael), Karen (Larry), Krista, and Monica (Marty).
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn and brother-in-law, Ewart.
A visitation will take place on Friday, July 8, 2022, 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Serenity Digby County Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Patient Navigation .
