NABE, Roy Elmer November 12, 1931 – October 28, 2021 aged 89 years.
Roy Nabe was born on the family farm near Makaroff, MB. Roy was the oldest of four siblings. He attended school in Makaroff until Grade 8, then went to Winnipeg to work in cribbing & construction. After a while he came back to work with his father on the family farm.
Roy and Rose met in Togo on a Saturday night. They were together for 3 years and later married on December 11, 1958 in Togo, SK. He then began his lifelong career of running heavy equipment for the municipality building roads and clearing bush etc. A little while later they purchased a truck and trailer and travelled around Manitoba as Roy worked on construction running Caterpillars.
After that, Roy and Rose moved back to farm for a few years while living with Rose’s parents which allowed them to buy a house in Runnymede. In 1968, he bought land in Runnymede and farmed there until 1981when he sold it. Shortly after the sale, Roy and Rose bought a house in Kamsack and stayed there until 2015. For the next 20 years after selling the farm Roy worked with his brother Albert. He worked the last 25 years of his life helping farm and run Cat and scraper for Joe and Elizabeth Senderawich.
After selling the farm in 1981 he constantly found time to enjoy doing his favorite hobbies; fishing, hunting, cooking and working with meat! He kept busy flipping pancakes for the Kamsack Museum & RCMP. Roy helped Glen Boychuk with catering and making shishliki at both the bakery and the Woodlander Hotel. He enjoyed many hours helping his brother Albert cutting meat and making sausage.
He is survived by his wife Rose who he was married to for 62 years: son Ellery (Laurie), grandson Kipling; brother Albert (Trudy), sister in-law Thelma.
Roy was predeceased by parents Fred and Elizabeth, brother Larry, sister Remona (Orland) Ruf. Roy has six nieces and four nephews and numerous cousins and family.
Graveside service will be held in the summer of 2022 at the Togo Community Cemetery Sk. with a come and go tea to follow at the Togo Elk’s hall, Donations in memory of Roy Nabe can be made to the Togo Community Cemetery, Togo, SK.
