Rosina’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Rosina Hatcher Burry, 93, announce her peaceful passing on February 24, 2022, at the Long Term Care Facility in Port aux Basques with her niece Wendy at her side. Born in Rose Blanche, Rosina was the daughter of Stanley and Alice Hatcher.
Rose is survived by her nieces and nephews; Wendy (Paul) Graham, Diane (David) Herritt, Roberta (late William) Butler, Robert (Pam) Hatcher, Roger (Gloria) Hatcher and Edith (Wayne) Osmond. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Joyce (late Brian) Hatcher and special cousin George Hatcher and his wife Miriam.
She was predeceased by her father Stanley in 1975 and mother Alice (nee Hatcher) in 1985. She was also predeceased by siblings Maude (Frederick) Stroud, James (Lillian Collier), Johnny, William (Marie Lights), Brian and niece Mary (Stroud) Gale.
Rose leaves to mourn her great nieces and nephews, Andrew and Emily Graham, Denise Coady, Renee Weeks, Lisa Lowe, Cindy Cranford, Mark Butler, Madonna Lawrence, Karen Swain, Jason Osmond, Jonathan Mauger and Jessica Brennan.
Rose was like a grandmother to Andrew, Emily, Denise and Renee and had a very special spot in her heart for them. She enjoyed her visits with Emily and her ‘man’ Josh Halleran and Andrew and ‘his girl’ Oriana Pittman Caines. One of her first questions would always be “when is the weddin?” She also treasured her visits with Renee and Gavin and their daughter Ariana and with Denise and John and their daughters Brooklyn and Audrey. She will always live in their hearts through wonderful memories of her kindness, humour, badness and laughter. Rose spent many visits and extended stays with Wendy and Paul, Diane and David and Roberta over the years. Paul and David were like her own sons with who she also shared a special bond.
Rose had many friends young and old alike. She enjoyed a good laugh, a game of cards and a drink of whisky. She especially enjoyed Christmas stays at Paul and Wendy’s place and any opportunity to be ‘on the go,’ especially when gatherings were shared and memories made. She was affectionately known as Aunt Rose by so many!
Rose worked at the Post Office in Rose Blanche when she was young and later worked in Charlie Collier’s Shop before getting married. She often joked that she left the post office to go to work for Charlie Collier because he offered her more money to come work for him. She was a whiz at arithmetic and used to tell stories of how her cousin Reub would sometimes copy her math homework up on the rock before school.
Rose was blessed with many caregivers over the years both when she lived independently as well as when she later moved to long term care. The family is very grateful to all of these caregivers, especially Long Term Care Staff, Dietary, Housekeeping, Recreation, Dr. Thomas, Angela Chaulk NP and Diane Munden.
Funeral Arrangements are in the care of East Haven Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-4 on Friday, February 25th and 7-9 Friday, February 25th at the East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. In Rose’s hymn book she had a notation asking for the following quotation to be written on her headstone: “Love and Laughter go together. They are memories that never die.”
