Philip, Rose Sunrise May 9th 1931- Sunset February 2nd 2022
Rose passed away peacefully on February 2nd at home, in her 91st year, surrounded by her family. She was a beloved mother to Esther Brooks (Bart), Ruth Parliament (Jeffrey), M.A King (Michael), and Nellie Groenenberg. She was a proud and cherished Oma to ten grandchildren: Ryan (Karley), Barrett (Kassandra), Michael (Mel); Adam (Nicole) and Hannah (Gavin); Madeline and Grayson; Emma (Hippolyte), Rachel (Justin) and Frank. She was a great Oma to Ila, Gabrielle and Palmer, known as ‘Oma with glasses’.
Rose actively volunteered for associations and causes she was passionate about. Local theatres, Ballet companies, choirs, Hospices in Hamilton, and ‘McNally House’ here in Grimsby.
Rose was an educator to the core, always seeking new knowledge and learning. With a successful career as a primary and secondary public school teacher, ESL English teacher to new immigrants, post secondary professor teaching Dutch at Fanshawe College and after retirement became a Therapeutic Touch Practitioner and Educator.
Rose was an avid reader of all genres of books, she also kept her mind sharp with crosswords, word search puzzles, playing board or card games, where you could see her competitive spirit.
She was a wise and thoughtful mother, friend and Oma, she knew what to say and would say it. Whether you wanted to hear it or not, such a gift! Rose touched many lives and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Rose/Oma/Mom was powerful, wise and a passionate writer. Here is a page from her writings in 2005.
‘I woke up from a dream…. everything was violet/purple
Absolutely everything appeared.
Was there a message?
Did it say; soul, souls, spirits?
I was calm waking up, just amazed and centered.
Where to go from here?
It will show in the future……I suppose.
Violet, purple everywhere’.
Thank you to Dr. Ysselstein, Dr. Marshall, and her Palliative Care Team, St. Elizabeth Healthcare, West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, and Orchardview Guardian Drugs in Grimsby, all or their excellent care and support.
If desired, memorial donations to The McNally House Hospice or a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
