Rose Anna Mary Dunphy died peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in the presence of her loving family. Rose Anna was predeceased by her parents Michael Dunphy and Mary Dunphy (nee Manning), and by her brother Philip Dunphy.
She is fondly remembered and mourned by her brother Con Dunphy (Elaine), her nephews Sean Dunphy (Christina), Patrick Dunphy (Jennifer), Matthew Chalker, her niece Marlaina Dunphy (Tommy), and her sisters in law Mary Anne Ennis and Amber Brown Dunphy. As well, her loss is deeply felt by her many cousins and relatives in the Dunphy and Manning families. Her dear friend Sheila will miss their frequent phone chats.
Rose Anna was born at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital St. John’s, NL on August 25, 1955. She attended Most Holy Rosary School at Freshwater, NL and later Laval High School at Placentia, NL. In 1974 she graduated with a Business Administration Diploma from College of the North Atlantic at St. John’s, NL.
Rose Anna began her working career at George Murphy and Sons Ltd. in Freshwater, then did an enjoyable stint with the Canada Summer Games Committee in St. John’s before joining the staff of Harvey’s Oil Ltd. in St. John’s, NL in 1976. Rose Anna continued working in the credit department there until her retirement in 2021. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of her customers and accounts. She could often be seen walking to and from Harvey’s from her home on Blackmarsh Road in her younger days; she was quite the walker in those times.
She was the keeper of many old family photos and memorabilia and could always be depended upon to settle a “fending and proving” argument, code name for who was related to whom, who married whom, and who died when. She was the reminder person for birthdays and various life event anniversaries. We’re going to be lost without her “service”.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 Lemarchant Road, St. John’s, NL. Visitation on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Holy Trinity Church, Torbay, NL. with inurnment to follow at the Old R.C. Cemetery, Torbay. Actually, as per her wishes, half of her ashes will be buried at this time with her mom, Mary Dunphy, and her grandmother, Johanna Nolan Manning. The other half of her ashes will be buried with her brother, Philip Dunphy, and Dad, Michael Dunphy, at Freshwater, NL. This second inurnment will occur this summer at a date to be announced later.
Flowers will be gratefully accepted or you may wish to make a donation to one of the Ukraine Emergency Funds.
Rose Anna always liked a meaningful little saying that her grandmother Johanna used to recite:
“Went downtown, found an old tin can, brought it home, cleaned it, polished it, shined it, put it up on the mantelpiece, looked just as good as all the other little things.”
She believed that every person has an inner beauty. A little polishing and shining is all it takes sometimes
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Rose Anna Dunphy 2022..
