Rose Amiee Freeman passed away peacefully at Season’s Encore in Olds on Friday, August 5th. She lived a good long life with Bert her husband of 59 years. She was born on November 9, 1932 at Egg Lake close to Lac la Biche to Luc and Emma Dionne and 8 other sibling’s. Her father was a veteran of World War I and was given the land for his services to the British Empire. Rose had a love of music and at the age of 16 she played guitar on CBC Edmonton. She met Bert in October 1950 and they were married in December 1950. The first year was spent at the Pasquaska fire tower in the bush north of Calais, AB. Then Bert joined Fish and Wildlife and moved to Camrose, AB. Their daughters Karyn and Cathy were born in Camrose. Later the family move to High River and then stettled in Olds. There were always wild animals in the house that Bert has rescued. In 1977, Bert retired from Fish an Wildlife or as he called it – “Fish and Feather” and opened up the Howdy Drive-In in Sundre. They had lots of customers and made lots friends in Sundre during this time. They would close down in November and head to Arizona for the winter with the fifth wheel for camping and some gambling at the casinos. After Bert had health problems, they sold the fifth wheel and stayed close to home. Bert and Rose had lots of friends and had reunions with the fellow Fish and Wildlife officers at various locations around the province especially at the Pourquois cabin west of Sundre. Sadly, Bert passed away in 2010 and Rose moved into Season’s Sunrise then to Season Encore where she made more friends. She had a good life with too many adventures to recount. She will be missed by her family Karyn; grandchildren Jeremy (Lindsay), Michael, Julie (Jason); great grandchildren Noelle, Jeffrey, James and Benjamin all from Ontario. Also, her daughter Cathy (Gord) of Olds; grandchildren Jason (Jacqueline), Matt (Zoe) and her closest grandson Holden. The family would like to thank the staff at Locleigh House in Season Encore for their care and compassion. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to charity of choice. Condolences may be made or viewed at www.heartlandfuneralservices.com
