Ron McLeod passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the age of 72 years with his wife, Brenda McLeod (née Fjordbotten) and daughters, Raine and Bobbie, by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by not only his wife and daughters, but his sisters Darlene (Jim) Anderson and Karen (Ray) Brewster, his brother Len (Mina), his many nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friends. He is predeceased by his father Vernon and his mother Ila (née Seely), both of Nanton.
Born in Claresholm and raised in Nanton, Ron grew up learning the art of woodworking from his father, a skill he carried with him for the rest of his life. Ron was generous and always there to help a friend (or stranger) who needed it and he worked hard at whatever he did, never doing anything halfway. He was also a voracious reader of historical non-fiction and was particularly fascinated by the histories of both World Wars.
Although Ron and Brenda started their family in the small mountain town of Grande Cache where he was an equipment operator at the local mine, in 1999 fate allowed them to move “back home” to the Nanton area where they remained until his death. Ron will be remembered for his humour, his talent for singing Barrett’s Privateers with every man in the family at weddings, and playing Mannheim Steamroller at full volume to wake the girls on Christmas morning.
His family would like to thank the staff at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary for their diligent care for Ron at the end of his life.
