Ron made his final journey into the arms of His Saviour at Windsor Hospice. He was reunited with his beloved wife of 56 years, Sheila Anne Hesman (nee Rawlings, 1937-2015). Son of the late Charles & Sarah Hesman and brother to seven siblings, Ron is predeceased by baby Ruth, Sarah Wrigley, Marjorie Beaumont, Charles, and Ken. He is survived by sisters Pricilla Falkner and Deanna Horvath, many nieces and nephews, and cousin Carol Green. A wise and loving father, Ron will be dearly missed by his 3 children: Ruth Toy (Peter), Ronald (Amanda), and Steven (Lydia). Loving Papa to Rebekah, Rachel, Gideon, Aaron, Joshua, Micah, Nathan, Sarah, Hannah, and Leah plus 7 great-grandchildren.
Ron trained at Camp Ipperwash with the Military Cadets and served in the Es Scottish Regiment Army Reserves. After receiving his first trumpet through the military, Ron excelled as a trumpet player and enjoyed making music together with Sheila on the piano, his children, and his grandchildren.
With a sharp mind and excellent memory, Ron set an example of wisdom, diligence, and integrity. He always took the initiative to learn something new and to keep up with technology. Hardworking from a young age, Ron was a valuable employee of Hiram Walkers for 36 years (1953-90). After his retirement, he worked part-time at Walter Kelley Funeral Home (1995-2004) and for Windsor Chrysler as a driver (2001-11). Ron volunteered as a scout leader, t-ball coach, and camp counselor. He also worked with Junior Achievement, Youth for Christ, and the Windsor Crisis Pregnancy Centre.
Known as an excellent driver, Ron was always ready to give someone a ride or assist anyone in need. In this way, he lived out his faith in Christ. Ron attended All Saints Anglican then St. Barnabas Anglican churches where he taught Sunday school for over 20 years. Ron later became an active member of Turner Road Chapel (1977-2022) where he served in many capacities including church elder for 22 years.
Outgoing and friendly with a good sense of humor, Ron always had a story to share and a song to sing. During his 88 years in Windsor, Ron cherished his many friends, including those from Turner Road Chapel, the 50+ singles group, and those who visited him in recent months. A special thanks to Susan from Amy’s Helping Hands and the staff and volunteers at Windsor Hospice on Empress for their excellent care and compassion. Ron, Dad, Papa… “You Are My Sunshine”!
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 15, 2022 from 7-9 pm and the service on Tuesday, August 16, at 11:00 am at Families First Funeral Home (1065 Lauzon Rd. 519-969-5841). Interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Windsor or a charity of your choice.
