À la mémoire de
Ronald Kocel
10 décembre 1939 –
29 décembre 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ron Kocel at the age of 82, on December 29, 2021. Ron passed away at home where he lived with his much-loved cousin Patt Kwiatkowski. We are grateful to Patt for the loving care she provided to her cousin Ron over many years. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Felix, and Nellie (nee Kawucha) and his granddaughters Amelia and Olivia. Cherished by his children, Cheryl, Christine (TJ) and Jeffrey (Theresa). Loving grandfather of Samuel,
Natalie, Ava, Sophie, Henry, and Theodore. He will be deeply missed by his sister Linda (Raymond), niece Amy (Jamie), great-niece Elle, and by many extended family members. Ron had a career in education that spanned over 30 years, as both a teacher and Principal with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board. He completed his career by returning to what he loved most: teaching in the classroom. He will be
remembered fondly by numerous friends, colleagues, and students. Ron was a truly gifted musician and composer. At the request of Bishop Paul Redding, Ron composed the theme hymn, “A House with Many Rooms” for the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Diocese of Hamilton. He later composed another album,
featuring a song entitled “For the Least Ones”, dedicated to the brothers of the Good Shepherd. Ron always felt blessed to work with the talented individuals in his choirs and on his albums. Ron had many interests and talents, including creating artwork, fishing, science, nature, astronomy, and comedy. A former member of the RBG Orchid Society, Ron appreciated the beauty of all plants, especially orchids. Ron’s dry sense of humour was second to none. A comedian at heart, he left us with a multitude of jokes, pranks and funny stories that are as unforgettable as he is.
Cremation has taken place. With much regret but for the safety of Ron’s family and friends visitation will be cancelled due to the increasing Covid numbers.
In lieu of flowers and in Ron’s honour, please consider a donation to the Woodland Cultural Centre
