Ronald Knight Saturday December 10th 2022

Knight, Ronald Edward
Ronald ‘Ron’ Edward Knight was born in Toronto, Canada to parents Arthur and May (Mary) nee Nangle on June 28th, 1933. He was the eldest of 3 children. He had a brother Kenneth and a sister Donna.
He was an accomplished athlete in high school, playing football, basketball, hockey, and running track. His favorite subject was history.
After high school he went to work at Loblaw’s as a meat cutter and eventually worked his way up to being Loblaw’s first Sanitation Specialist. He ensured the safety of both employees and customers and established quality and safety guidelines still utilized in stores today.
He married Margaret Estella Cairns on September 21st, 1957 and had two daughters Karen Lee and Cheryl Ann. He took the family camping every summer, traveling all across Canada and through much of the United States with an annual trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with the Bunce family for Spring Break.
Ron was a self taught carpenter, plumber, and electrician. He could make and repair almost anything.
The love of his life, Margaret, died tragically at age 43, leaving him to continue to raise his daughters with the help of family and friends.
He retired at age 55 but continued to do the same job as a consultant, leaving time for playing golf, traveling and reading.
He loved watching hockey, baseball and golf. His favorite teams were the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, but he kept abreast of almost everything going on in the sports world – even American college football.
Both daughters graduated from college and married. Karen and husband Colin reside just outside of Orangeville, Ontario and Cheryl and her husband Donnie reside just outside of Dallas, Texas.
He has three grandchildren by daughter Cheryl; Madeleine of Los Angeles, California, Baileigh of Dallas, Texas, and Trey of Albuquerque, New Mexico. From the time they were born, he visited his grandchildren twice a year, driving to Dallas in two days every May and October, taking them to school, watching their sports and playing golf with friends that he made during his visits.
Until recently, he made his home in Barrie, enjoying himself on the curling rink and the Barrie Golf & Country Club.
He is survived by daughters Karen and husband Colin, step grand-daughters Erin and Shannon (Patrick) and their children Eloise and Mavin, Cheryl and husband Donnie, grandchildren Madeleine and husband Austin, Baileigh, Trey and wife Madison, nieces Sue Knight, Sheri-Lee, nephews Greg Knight, Michael Rowan, Kenny Rowan, along with many great nieces and nephews.
He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Funeral Service will be held at Dods & McNair Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Centre 21 First St. Orangeville on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at 11:00 am. With visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment – Sanctuary Park, Toronto.
