RONALD DAVID BELL 2022

Date of Birth: June 1st, 1943 in Halifax, Nova Scotia
Date of Death: January 28th, 2021. He passed away at the age of 77.
On Thursday, January 28th, 2021 Ron passed away unexpectedly in Humber River Hospital in Toronto, ON from internal bleeding. He suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and a few other Neurological disorders. Due to Covid restriction, there was no viewing and funeral arrangements made at the time. His remains were cremated.
He was born on June 1st, 1943 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings. He was the youngest of the 6 siblings. His parents were Harold Lester and Geneva Ethel (Townsend). His siblings were Shirley Blanche Knowles (Merlin), Doris Ruth Carroll, Lester Wyvel (Dolores), Harold George and Ralph Albert (Arthureen Ann).
He left behind his beloved wife Rosalinda “Rose” (Olicia) and their dog Rascal Bell Jr. Loving father to David, Joanne Marie (Gian) and Krista Jane (Harm), grand-father to his 6 grandchildren (Nathaniel, Kayla, Beatrice, Genevieve, Noah and Joshua. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
He started going to Full Gospel Church when he was about 7 years old when he told his mother and got the approval of the Pastor that he is ready to go to church. From then on, he became an active parishioner of the church. He had tremendous faith and devoted to serving his church community at Full Gospel Church. He was part of the Choir, Bible study and served as a Deacon.
He was married in Full Gospel church and was blessed with 3 kids. When people asked him how many kids he had, he told them, “A boy, a girl and a Krista Bell”.
He relocated his family and dog from Halifax to Toronto, ON in the late 80’s for a better job opportunity. They ended up living in Ajax, ON. The family found their community church there and continued their faith and became active members.
He was blessed to be able to provide for his family, having worked straight for more than 41 years in the same company – SEARS CANADA. He started working there when he was 18 years old and retired the day before he turned 60! He was a Technical Analyst in their IT Department. He was a hard worker, dedicated, a leader amongst his peers, he became part of their choir as well and was known for his good sense of humour.
He loved it when Nathaniel (his first grandchild) started calling him “PAPA” and it continued down to the last grandchild.
You can take the Man out of Nova Scotia, but he remained a “Maritimer!”. He loved it to the core.
He had a second-leased of happiness when he met Rosalinda “Rose” Olicia in 2001. They met at work at Sears. He had her, when he answered his work phone, “Ron Bell speaking!” The 27 years age gap was never an issue. They shared the same sense of humour, can look at each other and know what the other person was thinking. They got married on March 31st, 2007 in a small church in Niagara Falls, ON supported by a few selected family members.
He was able to enjoy retirement by traveling with his partner in crime, his wife Rose to Varadero and Cayo Coco (CUBA), honeymooned in Punta Cana (DOMINICAN REPUBLIC [and returned a few more times]), Cabo San Lucas (MEXICO). They went on a cruise via EURODAM and went to Grand Turk (TURKS & CAICOS), San Juan (PUERTO RICO), St. Thomas (US VIRGIN ISLAND) and Half Moon Cay (BAHAMAS).
He enjoyed taking a stroll around the neighborhood and parks, holding hands with Rose and holding on to the leash of their dog Rascal. He loved to go camping in a cottage, fishing, take day trips, watch movies, go to live musical theatre shows, Cirque du Soleil, baseball games, visit and spend time with his kids and grandchildren, go out for dinner, sun tanned (by the beach or park) and you wouldn’t believe it but he enjoyed dressing up! He was the best dressed guy for his age.
Ron may have wanted to do more in life, but, unfortunately, his health prevented him to do so. At 65, he started walking with a cane. Due to other health issues, mainly complication from his hip surgery and developing Alzheimer’s, he was confined to a Long-Term Care in 2018. He remained positive and thankful for the love and support he received from his wife, dog and family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Nurses, Personal Support Workers and Management teams at Norfinch Care Community in Toronto, who helped looked after Ron while he was there from February 2018 to the January 2021.
He lived and loved fully. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Ron at the Full Gospel Church in Halifax on Wednesday, October 19th, 2022 at 2PM. (Address: 2256 Larry Uteck Blvd., Bedford, NS B4B 1E3)
In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name to Alzheimer Society of Canada or Parkinson Society Canada would be appreciated.
