Roland Rolly LaCroix Monday March 7th 2022

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear husband, brother, father, and grandpa. Rolly who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on March 7, 2022.
He will be forever remembered by his beloved wife of 36 years Cindy; his children, Justin (Kristin), Jaquelyn (Sami), Rick, Stephen (Karen); grandson, Darren and cherished granddaughter, Aïcha. He is survived by his brother, Brian (Paula) and sister, Dawn (Fraser). He will be missed by not only his relatives but also his extensive list of friends and colleagues who were like an extended family to him.
Rolly was born on September 13th, 1950 and was raised in Saint John, New Brunswick. He met his wife Cindy while working together at a restaurant, and they married on December 28th, 1985. Together they traveled and lived in various places across Canada, ultimately settling in at Cooks Creek in 1986.
Rolly was a jolly individual and could find the humor in any situation. He had a strong energy and loved to engage in conversation, which often drew people to him. He held his family and friends dear to his heart, often referring to those closest to him with the pet names he had given them.
Roland’s work passion was real-estate, practicing for over 30 years. His career really flourished because of his extroverted personality, his numbers recall, and his straightforward approach. He formed lifelong friends in the industry, was beloved by clients, and had no wish to retire.
Cooking was a favourite past time for Rolly and a natural talent. He took pride in his preparation, mix of spices, and the deals he was able to get on the cuts of meat he was preparing. His talent was well used in his younger years when he worked as Chief Steward for a crew on an oil tanker and managed the MTS Café. Later in life, he still enjoyed cooking for family and friends and was often in the kitchen whipping up something delicious without a written recipe, or exact measurements.
Spending the cold months in Mexico was a favourite leisure activity of his and he was lucky enough to go often with family and friends. Close to his heart was a family trip to Mexico celebrating his son Justin’s wedding in 2018. He enjoyed soaking up the sun with a smile on his face and would happily cheers with a Corona at happy hour.
The family would like to thank all the dedicated staff at the Selkirk Hospital, Cancer Care Manitoba and especially Dr. Andre Matteliano. Rolly spoke so highly of the service and care they provided and deserve all the praise for their efforts.
An open invitation funeral will be held at 11:00 am Thursday March 17th at Oakbank United Church, 582 Balsam Crescent, Oakbank. For anyone wishing to share memories of Roland, there will be an open mic during the reception.
All are welcome, but for the safety of everyone, the family is asking that all attendees be double vaccinated, and that masks be worn throughout the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Manitoba Cancer Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
