He was predeceased by his brother Harold (Buddy) O’Neil of New Brunswick, Peggy O’Neil of Cavendish and Eva (O’Neil) Horton of Dartmouth.
Rollie’s young life started working in the woods in Antigonish County. His love for forestry then brought him to the Lumber Woods in Stewiacke to work with his father, where his main job was to take care of the work horses. In 1964, he and Geneva moved to Ontario where he worked for Kingsway Lumber as a truck driver, and shorty after went back to school to take his welding course. Rollie married Geneva in 1965 at the age of 27, and they moved back to Dartmouth in 1966. For the rest of his career, he worked as a welder with Local 244, Mulgrave Machine, and East Coast Hydraulics. He loved telling stories about his time spent on Oil Rigs, especially sharing the stories of working on Sable Island. After retirement, Rollie returned to working in the woods and starting sawing logs with his own sawmill.
Rollie was an avid hunter, fishermen and overall outdoorsmen, spending much of his free time at the camp. He knew his was away around a motor and did not hesitate to help anyone in need. He loved being surrounded by family, and demonstrated his love in teasing, jokes, and wise remarks.
