ROGUSKY Edward John May 10 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ed Rogusky announces his passing on May 10, 2022, at the age of 84. Ed was born in Winnipeg on August 22, 1937, growing up in rural Manitoba with his parents Stephen and Mary Rogusky, and his sister, Helen. Following High School at Rossburn, MB he worked at the Federated Co-op in Birtle, MB. Ed joined the R.C.M.P. in 1957 and served at rural detachments throughout Alberta including Wainwright, Leduc, Mayerthorpe, and Redwater, as well as instructor assignments in Penhold, AB, Ottawa, and Regina.
Along the way, Ed married Joanne (Fitz), his best friend and soulmate, of Leduc. Together they were blessed with two sons, Derek and D’Arcy. Ed finished his RCMP career by serving with the Training and Development Branch in Ottawa and the R.C.M.P. Academy in Regina where he attained the rank of Staff Sargant. He completed the University of Regina’s Human Resource Management Program before retiring from the force in 1980.
Ed then joined the Alberta Public Service where he spent 19 years working primarily in human resources including the Director of Human Resource Services for Alberta Consumer and Corporate Affairs and Alberta Registries.
Upon retirement Ed and Joanne fulfilled a lifelong dream of giving back to the community through international service with Habitat for Humanity’s International Global Village program. Volunteering to build houses in impoverished areas around the world were some of Ed’s most gratifying times.
Their global Habitat volunteer assignments took them to Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Portugal, New Zealand, and multiple times to Mexico.
During his time living in Leduc, Ed was very active volunteering with a community led Habitat for Humanity initiative to build homes in Leduc. He also served as a Board Member for the Edmonton Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Ed also served as a volunteer on the Board of the Leduc Minor Hockey Association for many years and as a Board member with the Salem Manor Long Term Care Centre at Leduc. He also volunteered in various roles at the church he attended.
Ed lived well, laughed often, and loved much. He was respected by so many who had the blessing of knowing him. He worked hard, looked for the best in others, gave his best, defended the underdog, and sought to leave everywhere he went a better place than when he found it. He was a loving husband, father and grandparent and was deeply loved in return.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Mary Rogusky, his daughter-in-law, Heather Rogusky, and nephew Brent Harrison.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Joanne, two sons and their spouses, Derek and Malinda and D’Arcy and Helen, and five grandchildren, Nowel, Brodie, Krystoff, Alexandria and Nikolai along with his sister, Helen (Fraser) Hunter and many extended family members and friends.
At Ed’s request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s honour can be made to Hope Mission or Stars Air Ambulance.
