Roger’s Obituary
Roger James Thordarson, long time resident of the Peace Country, passed away on August 16, 2022 at the age of 69. Roger was born in the old Berwyn Hospital on November 1, 1952. He lived with his large and growing family in Whitelaw until 1964 when the family moved to St. Albert. It was in St. Alberta where he met the love of his life, Pearle Sundby. Pearle was in Nursing school and was from Fairview… and nobody knew where Fairview was, but Roger knew, and they were married on July 7, 1973. They had their first son Aaron in September of 1974 and returned to the Peace Country shortly thereafter, where they had their second son David in September of 1977. Roger and Pearle eventually moved to Fairview where they raised their two boys from 1978 until 1995.
Roger became one of the first Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT-A) in Alberta, graduating from SAIT in 1978. Roger dedicated himself to his community as an EMT, a hockey coach and referee, and as a baseball coach where he led his team to a provincial championship. Roger also enjoyed a long career in Healthcare as a Materials Manager and Logistics CEO. After the boys graduated high school, this career in healthcare took Roger and Pearle to Fort Vermillion, High River, Strathmore, and then Two Hills… where Roger left healthcare and again moved back to the Peace Country (Peace River) in 2006. He decided to take on a bit of a quieter pace and worked in the Peace River Post Office for 10 years, where he loved his coworkers and enjoyed meeting and conversing with all the locals.
Roger was a lover of all sports, from hockey to karate, from golf to basketball. But his real passion was for camping and fishing.
Roger is predeceased by his parents Christian and Applonia, his brothers Chris, Billy, Bruce, and his sister Norma.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Pearle (Sundby). Two sons Aaron (Jill) and David (Tara), and six Grandchildren Axel, Alexis, Michael, Anthony, Ray, and Daniel. His Brothers Lawrence (Myrna), Sandy (Christine), Randy (Carol), Donny (Karen), and his sisters Shirley (Bob) and Lori (Justin).
Roger had asked, that in lieu of flowers, to please send donations to the Peace River Cancer Clinic.
