On Friday, August 26, 2022, Rodney James Zink, beloved faithful husband and father, passed away at the age of 76 in Pinawa, MB. He had endured a difficult battle with cancer.
Rodney was born in 1946 in Winnipeg, MB to Fred and Olga (Kohn) Zink, and grew up in the small town of River Hills, MB. In 1980, he then moved close to, and later within, the town of Oakbank, MB. He was married to Evelyn for 47 years.
Rodney began his working career at Atomic Energy of Canada (now known as Canadian Nuclear Laboratories). He also worked at Wittenburg Lumber for several years, returning to AECL to finish out his career before retiring.
Rodney had a wide array of interests, including photography, stamp collecting, and coin collecting. Another of his deepest passions included wood-working and building structures with his granddaughter. But, he was most well-known for his commitment to his local church. He was involved in multiple areas of service including Boys Brigade, as a deacon, as a trustee, and as a general handyman – all services that extended well past his working retirement. These are all a reflection of his deep, personal faith.
Rodney was also well-loved by his family and local community. He was someone with a heart of gold, always willing to give a hand to others, was always willing to give emotional support, and would participate in weekly meet-ups with a small group of friends at the local Tim Horton’s as well as attend weekly prayer and Bible sessions.
Rodney is survived by his wife Evelyn; his daughter Michelle and her husband David, and their daughter Mylah; his son Terry and his wife Carol; his sister Betty; brother Ron and his wife Marge; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Mark.
A celebration of life service is planned at Oakbank Baptist Church on Thursday, Sep 1 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakbank Baptist Church for a bench to be created in honor of Rodney’s memory.
