Roderick Leslie Channer also known to many as Rod Channer passed away peacefully at Juravinski Hospital on the morning of January 9, 2022, at the age of 85. He was born in Coleville Manchester Jamacia on April 2, 1936. Survived by his daughter, Delicia Channer and son, Titus Channer. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Liv, Tye and Ivy Channer, his sisters Audrey Channer, Everette Stewart and Freda Grundy, along with his many nieces and nephews. Extended family of Fred Boteng and Sam Boteng along with their families.
Roderick traveled from Jamacia to England and then immigrated to Canada in the 60s to establish his life that eventually landed him in Hamilton. He was a professional carpenter for over 40 years, with his true passion being the ability to create unique and meaningful carpentry work that brought joy to the people he built for. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors like yearly picnics at Bronte Creek, hiking or camping. He enjoyed making and flying his own kites and had a hidden talent of playing the Hawaiian steel guitar. He was a spiritual man that was the Dean of Hamilton for the IDMR (Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research). He enjoyed reading the bible religiously and sharing his spiritual teachings to others in the community.
He was a passionate soccer coach for Hamilton Sparta for 20 years and supported a lot of the youth in Hamilton not only in sport but in their lives. Roderick will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Special thanks to all the wonderful doctors and medical staff at the Juravinski Hospital, along with his family doctor. Roderick had a rare disease called Amyloidosis that made treating him that much more complicated. We hope that his experience with Amyloidosis aids in furthering the research and knowledge into future treatments for others with this rare disease.
There will be no funeral at this time. The family will hold a celebration of Roderick’s life in the summer at his favourite outdoor location.
