Robert Bear
1926 – 2022
Beloved husband, father, and (great) grandfather passed away at 96 years in Hospice with his family around him.
Born in rural Saskatchewan, he grew up in a family of boys – enough to field their own hockey team! He remembered stooking as a teenager and how fit and strong that made him. He retained that strength to his last months, through his lifestyle of hard work and athletic pursuits. He loved to ski on water or snow.
He was always inventive and hardworking. Every home the family lived in was either built by him or renovated significantly. He was an electrician by trade, but would tackle almost anything – from plumbing to drywall, landscaping to roofing, painting to flooring. He used all these abilities in renovating and maintaining a gracious old heritage apartment complex in Brandon, Manitoba. This became their business for 12 years.
Bob was a man of few words, but served through his many other talents. He and his wife Betty served at Rock Lake Christian Camp in Manitoba for 2 1/2 years, and in Nairobi, Kenya for 2 years – Bob building and maintaining the buildings, vehicles and grounds, while Betty taught and organized hospitality.
Bob enjoyed playing guitar with praise teams at church and in small groups. He started by playing at dances in the district where he grew up.
He lived a good long life, full of travel (particularly in his 70’s and 80’s), and full of the family he loved with a passion. We remember his loyalty and gentle kindness.
He is immensely missed by his wife of 65 years, Betty; his children Holly (Craig) and Tim (Audrey); grandchildren Nathan (Toni) and Kayla (Philippe) and 7 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service is at St Mark’s Ocean Park Anglican Church, Surrey, 10:30 am, Friday, September 23.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert William Bear August 25th 2022..
