TILLEY, Robert – It is with a heavy heart and tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Frank Tilley. Bob passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
Bob is survived by his adoring wife Carole, daughters Jennifer (Colin Williams) and Lisa. Grandchildren Emma, Max, Jake and Zach. Nieces and nephews, Scott S., Lesley and Scott as well as Lindsay, Matthew, Karen and Randy.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Frank and Winnifred Tilley and dear brother Brian and sister Dianne.
Bob enjoyed a long, successful and distinguished career on Bay Street. Colleagues remember Bob fondly as an innovator and tireless professional challenging and inspiring those following in his footsteps. His career began with the Toronto Stock Exchange long before they had electronic price trading. Bob was one of the people on the trading floor that manually changed the prices of equities on the Board.
He honed his trading and sales skills and understanding of the money and bond markets when he began his fixed income career at Equitable Securities. Bob was one of those unique individuals who excelled at both. He inspired a great many colleagues in the Fixed Income business. Colleagues remember that Bob could “sense” changes in the market and use his very confident skills to cover the largest Government, Pension and Corporate customers in the country. Demonstrating these consistent accomplishments for smaller, less capitalized dealers earned the respect of his partners and “The Street”.
Bob quickly became an executive with Equitable Securities and through the changes of the 1980s subsequently Levesque Beaubien Geoffrion and ultimately with National Bank Financial where he concluded his remarkable career as Executive Vice President and Managing Director where he was the inspirational leader of the combined Bond, Money Markets, Foreign exchange and ultimately the Derivatives trading and sales groups.
Bob made working hard and putting it all out there, fun. He had many inspiring lines…Failure was not an Option was his call to arms.
Bob made the transition from “Bay Street to the Tractor Seat”, where he enjoyed his horse farm, cottage, family vacations to Florida and spending quality time with his 4 grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the MORGAN FUNERAL HOME, 415 Regent Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake, on Saturday, December 3rd from 12:00 to 2:00 o’clock. A celebration of Bob’s life will follow at 2:00 o’clock, with interment at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy those who wish may make a memorial donation to Kidney Cancer Canada. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared at www.morganfuneral.com
