It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Ross Cherry. After a prolonged illness, Ross passed away at Northumberland Hills Hospital with loved ones by his side. Ross is survived by Sarah (also known as “Morag), his beloved wife of 61 years, his daughter Moira (Wade), granddaughter Kyla and grandson Steven. Ross is pre-deceased by his sisters Mary, Nancy and Sadie. Ross was born in Airdrie, Scotland at the family home of his parents Davis and Agnes Cherry. Ross attended Alexander Primary School , Airdrie High School and Coatbridge Technical College where he learned the skills that led to a successful lifetime career as a Master Carpenter. In 1969 Ross immigrated to Toronto, Canada with his wife and daughter. Ross opened a Carpentry and Construction company and enjoyed many years in business working on a diversity of projects with other carpenters and tradespeople. He truly was the best in his field of expertise and he worked on some of the finest homes in Canada and for some of the greatest Canadian companies. Ross enjoyed vacations with Morag to Ontario cottage country, Caribbean cruises, Mexico and visits to see family in Chicago, Ireland, British Columbia, Nova Scotia or Scotland. Ross was happy and made friends wherever he set foot. He enjoyed boating, fishing, waterskiing, parasailing and sports – especially soccer and curling. Ross curled on the Teachers Curling Club in Annandale. Ross was known by friends and family to be kind, generous, strong a good provider, and had a great sense of humour. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 7th from 12:30 – 1:30 at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg followed by a funeral service at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Northumberland Hills Hospital or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank everyone for their compassion, sympathy and kindness at this very sad time.
