Robert John Reader passed over on Monday, June 13th at the age of 87. Bob was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan. He was a warm, funny man and very well liked. Bob was a baker, and proudly served the Cowichan Valley for many years in the bakery business.
He was predeceased by parents Harry and Gladys Reader, sister Edie, first wife Irene, second wife Ruth and step-sons Brent and Mark. He is survived by daughter Pamela (Russ), grandsons Sagan and Spencer, Step-daughter Marla Jardine, step-grandson Troy Jardine (Taunya) and great grandkids Charlotte and Jaxson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob had pretty full life, he married his first wife Irene, in 1955 and they came to BC a few years later to stay with his brother-in-law and four children, when his sister Edie passed. After losing his first wife, he was lucky to find love again, and married Ruth, a childhood sweetheart of his from Saskatchewan. The two were married 15 years, until Ruth’s passing.
As a young man, Bob enjoyed hunting with antique muzzle loading rifles, fishing and archery. Bob had a talent for gunsmithing, and would build replicas of the old English and American hunting rifles that he collected. After retiring from the bakery business, he enjoyed gardening, and became an avid bicyclist for a number of years. He also loved to play guitar, sing country western songs, and used to entertain the elderly in care homes. He was loved very much, and will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 15th at 1pm. at 140 Campbell St. Duncan.
