MOORE—Robert James (Jimmy) born in Brandon, Manitoba May 16, 1937, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Jean, son Ian (Clara) and grandson Alec. Also survived by siblings Blanche (Jack), Barbara, Beverley, Michael and sisters-in-law Georgina, Irene, Isobel and Evelyn as well as many much loved nieces and nephews both in Canada and Scotland. Jim, the eldest of 7 children, was eleven when the family moved to Drinkwater Rd, Duncan, BC. In his youth, Jim was a talented Trumpet player competing in and winning many honours in the Cowichan Music Festival and playing the last post at Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Graduating with the Class of “54 and after studying in Victoria, UBC, Boston and University of Alberta, Jim returned to Duncan to pursue a long teaching career. He always found time to volunteer as a basketball referee, leading school bands and directing school musicals. During retirement, he became a member of the Thrifty’s Sendial Team and he manned the Salvation Army kettle for 23 years at the Mill Bay store. He also tutored students when they were preparing to write the SAT exam. He enjoyed singing with the Cowichan Consort until recently, adding volume to the Bass section!
The family is deeply grateful to all the Doctors and nurses who took care of Jim. Thanks to Dr. Reimer for his exceptional kindness and care over the years.
Following Jim’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Cowichan Hospice.
