Robert James Airhart (September 1, 1935 – September 8, 2022) of Stratford passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth. Born in Toronto, Robert was predeceased by his devoted wife Joyce Airhart (nee McLay) in 2002, loving parents James Malcolm Airhart and Helene Constance Airhart and sister, Lorraine Maine. Robert is survived by his son, Christopher and daughter Elizabeth Kerr (David), and grandchildren Allison Kerr and Matthew Kerr (Emily Scrivens).
Robert graduated from University of Toronto in 1959 and, after attending Teachers College, moved to Stratford in 1960 when he accepted a teaching position at Stratford Collegiate Institute. He was a math teacher with the Perth County Board of Education until his retirement from Stratford Central Secondary School in 1993.
Besides teaching, Robert had many interests. Robert spent many years with 223 Perth County Army Cadet Core, culminating in the position of Commanding Officer. Major Airhart CD and his family spent many wonderful summers at Camp Ipperwash. As well, Robert was a long-time member of the Stratford Astronomy Group. He also enjoyed travel, photography, and making picnic lunches for his young grandchildren to enjoy by the Avon River.
Robert’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care Robert received from the care team, staff, and volunteers at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth.
A private celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth through the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford 519.271.7411
