Robert G Robbie Blackwood Sunday January 2nd 2022

Robert (Robbie) Guy Blackwood
March 6, 1942 – January 2, 2022
We announce the passing of a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and uncle after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease in his 79th year on January 2nd, 2022. Born in Carmanville South, NL he was the son of the late Pearce and Ida (Coles) Blackwood (Hoyles). Robbie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Edna (Wheaton), and his son Andre (Pam) and his granddaughter Julia. His two brothers Harold and Eugene (Melvina) and his sister-in-law Ruby Blackwood (Sturge).
He was predeceased by his parents, Pearce and Ida, his brother Eleazer and his 2 sisters Fannie (Kennedy)(Bax) and Mary (Gillingham, White) (Lemuel)(Lee).
Robbie was a true outdoorsman and loved it on the water or the land. In his early years he worked on the Acadia Survey ship and told many stories of his adventures. He was an intelligent man and mastered Morse Code and became an AM Radio Operator VO1HQ. He was a master carpenter and could fix anything. He was a trapper and enjoyed many moose hunting adventures. For years their Cabin in Raft Pond was a crowded spot, from moose hunts to Ski-dooing adventures to a party which included Robbie on the Accordion.
He loved his wife Edna and it showed by the way they spent their time together and went everywhere together. She was his right-hand man. Every big or little job she was there right beside him with a piece of wood, paint brush or hammer in her hand too. Their trips to Corner Brook, Musgrave Harbour or Twillingate to name a few to visit Family and Friends were enjoyed by all. When Robbie and Edna were coming the truck was full of supplies or grub depending if the visit was to fix something or to just enjoy a time together.
His son Andre, his only child was his buddy and his pride and joy. He taught him everything he knew in the woods and in the kitchen too. He was proud of him and he respected the choices he made. Robbie and Edna never missed a Christmas with Andre, Pam or Julia and made numerous visits to wherever they were living at the time.
When Julia came along she was Poppy’s girl. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her. When she was an infant he didn’t like to put her down, she would sleep in his arms for hours. He would then lay her on the chesterfield with quilts and comforters around her and play the Accordion. He built a fence around the stove in the Cabin so she wouldn’t burn herself when she moved around as a toddler. Nan and Pop attended many activities Julia was involved in and there were lots. He watched her grow into the intelligent young woman she is now and let her drive his GMC Pickup, taking him wherever he wanted to go.
He held a special relationship with each and every one of his nieces and nephews. Uncle Robbie and Aunt Edna’s in Carmanville, NL was the place to go whenever anyone was home from the Mainland or lived a few hours away. Aunt Edna’s fresh made bread and Robbie cooking something in the fry pan.
Music and Friends was his passion, Dad ….. If you’re hunting up there, leave 3 ribs on the hindquarter.
In keeping with Robert’s (Robbie) wishes cremation has taken place with a private immediate family interment service to take place at a later date.
