Robert “Bob” Douglas Barnes was born November 10, 1934 and passed away April 14, 2022 at the age of
86 years at Joseph Brant Hospital with his loving wife of 58 years, Jean (nee Ostapow) and daughter,
Susan at his side. Bob lived a full life filled with a deep love of family and passed along his passion for
travelling, gardening, and fishing to his children Robert (Emily) and Susan (Brian) Stephen. Bob was a
devoted and loving father whose loss will leave a void that cannot be filled. Bob travelled extensively as
a young man and funded these travels by working hard at each destination. Bob saw the best in
everyone and kept his family circle tight. If you were loved by Bob, you were loved deeply and
unconditionally. Loving Papa to Peyton, Nicholas, Thomas, Julia and Reed, Bob never missed a hockey or
soccer game until his health started to decline. Never was there a prouder Papa. Always well dressed
with a fedora hat on, Bob was a true gentleman, a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed watching golf,
Wildlife programs, reading and listening to music with Frank Sinatra being one of his favorites. Bob will
be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. It was only through the
care and support of the amazing Home Instead caregivers (Ilza, Lori, Marivic, Joan, Jackie, Marianita) as
well as the devotion and boundless love of his wife Jean, that Bob was able to be cared for at home until
the end. A special thank you to Dr. Naidoo for his many hears of care and compassion. As Bob’s favorite
Frank Sinatra song goes, “Fly me to the moon and let me play among the stars….”. Play among the stars
Dad. We will forever love and miss you. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one
stop light North of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Monday, April 25 from 12 p.m., where the
Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Private internment Burlington Memorial Gardens. If
desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer Society would be sincerely
appreciated by family.
