Rev. Mr. Robert (Bob) Richer – in loving memory of Bob Richer, 75 years, who passed away Monday, January 31st, 2022 at Pioneer Manor. Beloved husband of Margaret (nee Eady) of Kanata. Loving father of Darren (wife Christine) of Kitchener, Mike of Sudbury, Melanie (husband Jason Cameron) of Elmvale, and Matthew (wife Blair) of Kanata. Sadly missed by grand-children Jacob, Holly, Liam, and Kaitlyn. Son of Bruna (nee Tramontini) and Raymond Richer predeceased. Loving brother of Gail predeceased (husband Bert Brown) of Hanmer, predeceased by infant sister Barbara, Don (wife Leila) of Sudbury, Barbara (husband Gary Berke) of Toronto, and Tom (wife Heather) of Kitchener. Dear brother-in-law of Kevin Eady (wife Kathy) of Sudbury, and Kathryn Farrell (husband Al) of Garson.
Bob was born and raised in Sudbury. The family moved to New Sudbury on Dublin Street in 1955 and belonged to St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Bob began teaching for the Sudbury District Catholic School Board in 1966 at age 19. Two years later in 1968, he married Margaret (nee Eady). Bob graduated from Laurentian University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and also from Central Michigan University with a master’s degree in arts and Education. He entered the Catholic Ministries program with his family and was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on June 16, 1981. In 1992, he received his supervisory officer’s certificate. Bob taught for the school board for 36 years as a teacher, principal, superintendent, director of education, and officially retiring in 2002. During his ministry, he served at St. Pius X church, Lively, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Clement’s and Christ the King churches in Sudbury. In retirement, Bob was working with Lougheeds and was with many families in Prayer Service and burial.
Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may gather on Thursday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm with prayers at 7pm. Funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 1250 Barrydowne Rd., Sudbury on Friday, February 4th, 2022 at 12pm. Interment in the Civic Memorial Cemetery.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elizabeth Breyere Memory Disorder Clinic, Ottawa, the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or the Alzheimer’s Society (Sudbury Chapter). For donations or messages of condolence, www.lougheedfuneralhomes.com

  1. Dear Margaret and Family: A happy memory that will bring a smile to you and your family. I believe we came to Sudbury for one of your son’s wedding. We had came through some heavy construction and our car was really dirty. The next day (the day of the wedding) Bob was out washing our car for us. To this day Bob always brings a smile to our face and we hope in the days ahead you will have some special memories. Rest in Peace Bob. Love Doug and Linda.
