Obituary
It is with profound heartache that the family of Bob Hepp announces his passing after a sudden and brief illness. Bob was born on his family’s farm in Mildred, Saskatchewan on May 4, 1955 and passed away on Wednesday, May 27 at the age of 65. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife, best friend and soulmate of 44 years, Deb and their children, Cortney (Pam) and Michelle (Travis). He was loved by his five grandchildren whom he adored and cherished: Kamin, Kaeson, Danika, Kain and Raeya. Bob is survived by his sisters Arlene, Adele, and Jacquie, and his brother Richard. He was predeceased by his parents John and Anna Hepp, sister Valerie, brothers-in-law Merv and Lorne, and father-in-law Ron.
Bob grew up in a rural town in Saskatchewan where farming, chores, and family were his staple. At the young age of 18 he moved to Alberta in search of work and found himself in the City of Leduc. It is here he met and fell in love with his best friend, Deb and shortly after accepted a position in Ponoka and moved his young family. Little had Bob known that this new town would be the place that he chose to call home.
Bob started out working as the grocery manager of the Co-Op and he enjoyed interacting with the public. He was always willing to go to the extra mile and satisfy the needs of his customers.
Bob immersed himself in getting to know people and before long had developed relationships that would lay the groundwork for life long friendships. It was here that he raised his family and made countless friends and acquaintances. He was admired throughout the community for his dedication and generosity to the public.
He pursued his passion of cooking and embraced experiences to teach others. He was excited by opportunities to share his creations. Bob and Deb established their own catering company soon after (1985) and continued to advance their relationships throughout the community. Most will remember Bob for his contributions to weddings, memorials and special events such as the Stampede smorg, pancake breakfasts, trade fairs and many other community events. However, Bob also took it upon himself to invest his time and generosity into volunteering. He enjoyed making people smile and the best way to do that was to get out in the public and put the needs of others before himself. He volunteered for countless organizations, some of them being The Rising Sun Clubhouse, the Food Bank, FCSS, Victim Services, Ponoka Youth Centre, St. Augustine Parish Fall Supper and of course, Community Christmas. Bob dedicated countless hours of his time to make sure everyone was able to enjoy a healthy meal at Christmas. From 2015 – present Bob and Deb could be found at the Ponoka Legion. They cooked the Friday night supper for all to enjoy. He loved to “feed the people!”
In more recent years, Bob took delight in cherishing moments with his family and five grandchildren whom he adored. He looked forward to birthdays, celebrations, milestones in their lives and just being with them. He was fortunate enough to take his family on four trips to Mexico. One of his favourite sayings was “Party of Eleven” and he would stop to communicate his pride – maybe even brag a little bit! He enjoyed “spoiling” his grandchildren and would often have special treats for them. These are the words that his grandkids chose to describe him – loving, thoughtful, accepting, kind, generous and awesome. Family was Bob’s truest joy in life.
Bob’s passing is heartbreaking to our family but we will continue to honour his memory by following in his footsteps to love and help others.
We would like to invited all who Loved and Admired Bob Hepp to share in honouring his memory at a Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ponoka at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022.
