Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful man, a loving husband and father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, co-worker and friend.
Robert “Bob” Norman Bauer was born on March 16, 1952 and passed peacefully on March 4, 2022, at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, Newfoundland, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Frances & Des Sonley and his father Robert Bauer, parents-in-law Vincent & Uriel Corcoran and brothers-in-law Clyde Kielly and Martin Meehan.
Bob leaves to mourn his loving wife of 34 years Lorraine (nee Corcoran) and his daughter Danielle. Also leaving behind his siblings: Peter (Cindy), Richard (Carol), Susan (Mike), Barbara (David), Sandra (Frank). Bob’s in-law’s include Sheila (Phonse), Marjorie (Aubrey), Eileen (Art), Vincent (Marlene), Earl (Kelly) and Pam. He also had many nieces and nephews, friends, co-workers and neighbors who will mourn his loss.
Bob led a fulfilling and accomplished life and was a man of many talents. For close to 50 years, Bob had a passion for the Fire Hall. He started his career as a firefighter in Churchill Falls in 1975 retiring as Fire Chief in 2007. But that was not enough for Bob. Upon retirement from Labrador, Bob, Lorraine and Danielle moved to Holyrood and Bob went to work with Young Drivers of Canada as an instructor for a few years before taking a position with the Holyrood Fire Department. He was a paramedic and volunteer and eventually worked his way into the position of Fire Chief.
Bob was a very dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge where he reached the position of Grand Master. He also spent time as a Lion and was president of the Lion’s Club in Churchill Falls for a few years.
Bob learned to fly at the age of 15 and was a Carni in the Billy Lynch Show in the Maritimes. He was a great guitarist, drummer and DJ. He was well known in Churchill Falls as “Dr. Bob” and would put off quite a show while carrying out his disc jockey chores.
Bob was Sensei of Judo for many years, practiced taxidermy, learned leather working, built and flew remote aircrafts and had an interest in scuba diving for a period of time. Angling, tying flies and hunting were also amongst his many hobbies. Through his love of camping and motorcycling, Bob, Lorraine and Danielle met countless lifelong friends. Bob has left an admirable legacy!
His family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff of 4 North A – Health Science Center, Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center and staff of PharmaChoice in Holyrood for their care and support during his sickness and throughout his journey.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and prayer service will be held at the Holyrood Fire Hall on Saturday, March 12th, 2022 at 12:00noon. Burial to follow at St. Josephs the Worker Cemetery, Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay.
