It is with broken hearts we announce that Rita Meeches began her journey to the spirit world on August 9, 2022 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 67 years.
Rita will be greatly missed by her children Farah, Tannis and Mervin, daughter-in-law Melvina, grandchildren Brody, Jerome, Harlen, Emery, Grayson, Rayanna, Riel, Shanikwa, Dillion, Darnell, Little Mervin, Julian, Tai, Khloe and Bella, great-grandchildren Lexington, Izzy Bear, Kalina and Ezra, brothers Ken (Rebecca) and Brian (Linda) and sister Jane as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rita was predeceased by her daughter Roxanne Marie, adopted daughter Joanna, grandbabies Benjamin and Elizabeth, parents Herbie and Gladys Daniels, brothers and sisters Valerie, Debbie, Doreen and Morris, niece Melody, maternal grandparents Ben and Jean Meeches and paternal grandparents John and Gladys Daniels.
Rita was born in Swan Lake, MB and attended Residential School in Brandon. Throughout the years, Rita worked at the Portage Woman’s Jail, LPFN Finance, South East College and at the Long Plain Daycare, and was happiest when working with children. Rita loved cooking and feeding people feeding people, and received her Level 1 culinary arts degree. She volunteered at the soup kitchen and feeding elders, and always made a Saturday Brunch for the family. Rita enjoyed spending time with her family, whether they were watching crime movies, going on evening outings for ice cream, or just joking and laughing. She always made sure that her boys were taken care of. Rita also enjoyed Bingo and spending time at “The Spot”. Rita will be greatly missed.
Wake will take place at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Friday, August 12, 2022 beginning at 4:00 pm. Feast and Service will be held at Long Plain Spirit Lodge on Saturday, August 13, 2022 beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Sandney, Garry B. Meeches, Chris Francis, Dillion Meeches, Darnell Meeches, Cory Ray Meeches, Julian Meeches and Mervin Jr. Meeches. Honourary pallbearers are Dan Moore, Loretta (Kotton) Francis, Joyce Perswain, Pam Perswain, Jerry Perswain, Anita Elk, Glennis Hotain, special uncle George Meeches, special cousins/brothers Dennis and Kerry Meeches and all of Rita’s friends and family.
