It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of
Rita DeCoste on February 18, 2022. Rita, formerly of Grosvenor, now of
Antigonish, was married to Patrick for nearly 55 years. Rita was born
at St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney but became the daughter of Anna and
Eugene Gerrior of Maryvale in October at six months of
age.
Rita is survived by her husband, Patrick, and their children,
Karen (Ralph) Stewart, Lochaber, NS; Eugene (Linda), Shelburne, ON;
Joseph (Kathy), Mississauga ON; Glenn(Janice), New
Glasgow, NS; and Phillip(Lisa), Stellarton,
NS.
Rita was so proud of each and every one of her grandchildren:
Kyle, Emily, David (Maddy), Marybeth, Travis (Courtney), Tommy
(Ashley), Tori, Kayleigh, Grace, Rebecca and Sarah, and
great-grandchildren, Kaidan, Allison and Payton. She is survived by
many special sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as more than fifty
nieces and nephews.
Rita was predeceased by both of her parents, her stepfather
Dougald, and her brothers Peter and Michael MacDonald.
Mom worked as a nurse at St. Martha’s and in
private care. She loved helping people in need. Mom gave of her time
with the CWL, Parish Council, and in the parish choir. Mom’s
faith was her strength through many years of physical hardship; that
faith and her love for her husband and family helped her to endure
many hard years.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to
Dr. Mary Gorman and her office teams, the Nursing staff at St.
Martha’s Hospital, and the VON and Continuing Care. The family
requests that memorial donations in Rita’s memory be made to St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.
Visitation will be held at C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish, on Friday February 25th from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 pm. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter’s Church
in Tracadie on Saturday February 26 at 11am. The funeral will
be streamed live and hosted on the funeral home
website. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later
date.
Full Covid restrictions will be in place including masking,
distancing, and valid proof of vaccination including photo
ID.
