Ricky’s Obituary
Tabor, Arthur Ricky “Toby” – 65, Springhill, passed away February 9th, 2022 at his brother Don’s house surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was diagnosed with terminal cancer only 6 days prior to his passing. Born in Springhill, he was a son of Ardythe (Marshall) and the late George Tabor. After high school, he worked for 20 years manning the Springhill fire tower for the NS Department of Lands & Forests. Ricky then worked for Public Works with the Town of Springhill for over 25 years. In his early years he also worked in LaSalle, Quebec and Sparwood, B.C. He really enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football, baseball and hockey. He was an avid dart player. His team competed and won several tournaments over the years. He was an avid reader and never turned down an opportunity to have a rousing hand of poker or crib. Ricky also enjoyed gatherings with his family.
Ricky was a no-nonsense guy who told you straight up the way it was. He lived a very humble existence and was one of the kindest souls who would give of his time and possessions without hesitation for anyone in need and was extremely appreciative of anything you did for him. He was a fantastic son, brother, uncle and friend. We always teased him and called him “Ricky Day” as he called Mom every morning at 8 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. to update her on the weather. Ricky spent many years at the camp at Fountain Lake with his Dad, brothers John and Mike and his four nephews Troy, Adam, Matthew and Johnathan hunting, fishing and four wheeling.
He was predeceased by his best friend and Dad, George; his brother-in-law Ian, cousin Louise, several aunts, uncles and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Besides his mother, he is survived by brothers, Michael, Calgary, AB; Don and John (Susan), both of Springhill; sisters, Marie (David) Fraser, Wallace; Lisa (Arnold) Boss, Springhill; his only remaining aunt Olive (Tabor) Reynolds, Springhill; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are with MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Oxford. Cremation has taken place with interment of ashes at a later date.
Donations in Ricky’s memory can be made to the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter.
