Rick G.’s Obituary
Richard (Rick) Glen Luka, long time resident of Grande Prairie, AB passed away March 31, 2020 at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie (AB) at the age of 49 years.
He is survived by his parents, Joe & Mary Luka; brother, Bill; sisters, Cindy and Sandra; as well as nieces, Breanna (Ryan), Barrie, Jolene, and Jackie; nephew, Brody (Kingsley) and great nephew, Beckham; as well as numerous family – aunts, uncles, cousins, and too many close friends to mention.
Rick’s big heart and sense of humor made him memorable and he will be missed greatly. Rick worked as a truck driver all of his adult life in the Alberta oil patch and his vast knowledge on a broad array of subjects was pretty darn astounding at times. Growing up on the family farm, Rick tinkered with trucks, cars, quads, and got in a few binds, but that’s what memories are made of.
Most recently Rick bought himself a Harley Davidson motorcycle, which he was able to take on some nice trips with his buddies and the open road; he was looking forward to a trip to Sturgis this year.
Rick loved spending time with family and friends (brunches, boating and B.S.’ing); the kids in his life (teasing, and teaching); and oh he loved his gadgets (drone, dash-cam, soda-stream and the list goes on); music (he knew and could remember not only the songs but the artists and the years!); vehicles (he could answer any question you had – even if it meant winging it until he could find the answer); and a deal (look out Kijiji).
Rick had a lot of plans, life was ahead of him – live your life to the fullest, it’s too short.
The family would like to thank Rick’s surgeons, internists, QEII staff on 4 North and ICU nurses for their wonderful and compassionate care. We would also like to send a special thank you to his friends who visited almost daily, Jon and Terry when family just couldn’t be there. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A Memorial Service is being planned for Thursday, June 2, 2022 alongside his mom, Mary Luka’s Funeral Service at the Dave Shaw Mewmorial Complex in Hines Creek at 2:00 PM.
