Obituary of Richard Donald McSween
MCSWEEN, Richard Donald (born March 6, 1966).
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rich on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Beloved son of Marianne and Don. Loving brother of Deb Pantin (McSween) and Nephew to Carole Gatenby. He is survived by his Niece, Nephew, Great Nephew’s, Great Niece, Aunts, Uncles and several Cousins. Rich had a great love and passion for animals and music. Where ever Rich was the music was always playing in the background. It was amazing how Rich would always be able to recite the lyrics and keep the beats of his favorite tunes effortlessly. A special thanks to family and friends who were always there to show unconditional love and support. In accordance with Rich’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced in due time. Arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, (905) 937-4444. Memorial donations may be made to the Lincoln County Humane Society or the Community Addiction Services of Niagara.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Richard

  1. I have known the McSweens for 52 years. My heart felt condolences go out to his mother, Marianne, father Don, and his sister Debbie. Richard was also close to his Aunt Carole and his cousin Peter. Rich and I grew up together and I have many fond memories of him. He loved everything with wheels, bikes, motorcycles, dinky cars, dirt bikes. He loved to take things apart and put them back together again. He loved lots of ketchup on his Kraft dinner and only ate the yokes of eggs. He loved mayonnaise sandwiches with a little bit of tuna. He loved to fool around and try to get a rise out of people like when he started jumping off the awning into the pool his legs bent like a frog. When we were young, he loved to torture his sister and I with his white hot jokes. He loved his music and introduced me to bands such as the Doors, Deep Purple, Ozzy, Led Zeppelin, The Who, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. We would sit in his fort that his dad made and listen to ” tunes” all the time. One Labour Day weekend, we were listening to the top 100 songs all day and wanted to hear what the number 1 song was. He knew it of course, so we called each other and listened to the top 10. We were on the phone for hours. Finally, he called it Lynyrd Skynyrds “Free Bird.” That was the first time I ever heard that song and I will remember that for the rest of my life. Richard, I know you are up there laughing at us right now and I hope you are “free as a bird now” and are flying around in your Mom, Carole, and Debbie’s gardens. Free as a bird and they will see you and smile at all the great memories you made together. Love you Rich, I will see you when I am a free Bird. Natalie (he never called me Nat)
