Richard Tadeusz Reczynski August 30 1929 August 19 2022

Reczynski, Richard Tadeusz – Passed away just shy of his 93rd birthday, early Friday August 19th, 2022. He leaves behind his wife Regina, his daughters Wanda Hope (Jimmy) and Tina Doane. His grandchildren Jacob, Sarah (Dalton), Olivia (Matt), Alicia, Brodie and Cameron (Avery) and great grandchildren Riley, Penelope, and Saria. Survived by sister Natalie Jodlowska, brother Jasiu (Stasia), nieces and nephews. He will be lovingly missed by all.
Predeceased by his wife Jane Reczynski (Juskow) March 8, 2009, his parents Jan and Jadwiga Reczynski (Rychter), his sisters Wanda and Bogda (Edek), and brother-in-law Jusek.
In his last weeks while enjoying our visits Tata told us that his greatest joy in his life came from us, all his children. Always ready to joke and tease us and any cute caregiver that came to visit him. He was loved by all and will always be remembered as a man who lived a full life making no apologies for his journey. In his 93 years he overcame struggles that today many would find insurmountable.
His family left their home in Poland as the war ended, and were taken to a displacement camp in Germany, where he received training to be an electrician. From there, Dad travelled to the U.S searching for that better life, which he worked towards and created here in Canada, after joining his sisters in Welland, caring for his Mom and younger Brother John. He worked in Construction, and many of the buildings he worked on are still standing in Burlington and in Welland. From there, going to Union Carbide, and finally to John Deere until his retirement at the age of 65.
Despite the struggles of his 93 years, he chose not to dwell on the hardships of the war, instead he chose to share the fun adventures he and his sisters engaged in to survive. ‘Borrowing’ bicycles, picking apples in orchards, or walking the railroad track at night to pick up coal to heat their home. He even borrowed a soldier’s uniform to have a suit made for himself. Where there was a will, he always found a way.
Dad was a builder of things and dreams. Nothing was too daunting a task for him. A master of woodwork, concrete, steel, and anything construction-related, even fabric. He would sit for hours doing crafts with his girls or helping mom do her canning or sewing by laying out and cutting out the pattern and fabric. There was nothing he would not do to help us achieve our dreams. He did not see the obstacles first, he saw the dream and created a plan above and beyond what we wanted. He dreamed and lived for his family.
The ugliness of his youth made him stronger and more determined instead of defeated. A trait generations can learn from. As I write this I myself realize I missed that – I did not appreciate this strength in him but I will carry it with me now. I will work to see my dreams and build them instead of fearing the obstacles I may have to overcome.
We would like to thank, with our whole hearts, the wonderful people that helped us meet Dad’s and Regina’s needs in the last months. Our most favoritist Sherri Lyn who came as often as they would schedule her who quickly became part of our family and stepped in to help us, along with Glenda our kind-hearted and loving PSW who will continue to be a part of our family and work with Regina through this next chapter of her life. They supported us so much more than words could express.
There are no amount of words to express the care and compassion the Palliative Care team exudes. Dr. Manser, who took the time to speak to us and visit to ensure all that we needed to keep dad comfortable was available to us. Along with her fantastic intake nurse Lori A who opened her afternoon to answer all our questions more than once! And for the most difficult moments and decisions the support, care, compassion, love, and understanding of our Palliative Care angels on earth Valerie and Kim. You will be a part of our lives forever. Thank you for sharing your strength with us when we felt we had none left.
Thank you to our family and friends for your support and understanding throughout this journey. Your kind words, hugs, and even silence was always what we needed in that moment.
The family has celebrated with a private service and burial.
